A worthy successor to the legacy of its older Royal Oak brother, the Offshore Chronograph is an experience that is hard to put into words – and that’s a good thing. Much like its predecessor, the model represents an intense yearning for the future, but it nevertheless looks to the past, to the rich history it is part of, with the highest respect.
Тhis Limited Edition Royal Oak dates to 2008 and marks AP’s third year as Official Timekeeper of the Tour Auto Lissac. Since the brand takes great pride in fulfilling this role, only 100 pieces were made, which makes the model considerably rarer than most limited-edition releases of today.
Its steel case measures 42 mm in diameter and follows the familiar architecture of the Royal Oak, but it incorporates an array of references to automobile racing. The black Mega-Tappeserie dial adorned with white counters evokes a checkered flag and the bright-red hands bring to mind the dashboards instruments of sports cars. Even the perforated leather strap celebrates the motorsport aesthetic, carrying considerable resemblance to 1970s motoring upholstery. The cherry on top – the presentation case mirrors the form of a competition-standard air filter.
Inside, the remarkable 59-jewel in-house caliber 3126/3840 is calmy ticking away. It, too, reflects motorsports’ unending quest for perfection.
