Mido
The Mido watch brand was founded in 1918 by Georges Schaeren in Biel, Switzerland. The brand name, “Mido,” is derived from the Spanish “Yo mido,” meaning “I measure,” and was chosen to reflect the company’s focus on producing accurate timepieces. In the 1920s and 1930s, Mido became known for its Art Deco-inspired timepieces, which were popular with collectors and watch enthusiasts – mainly the Multifort lineup. In the 1950s, the brand introduced its first water-resistant watches, including the Mido Ocean Star, which was aimed at divers and other water sports enthusiasts. Throughout the 20th century, Mido continued to innovate, introducing new materials and technologies, such as its Multifort movement, which featured a central rotor that allowed for automatic winding. Today, Mido is known for producing a wide range of quality, stylish watches that are inspired by the brand’s rich history.
