In 1977, in celebration of its 222nd birthday, Vacheron Constantin unveiled the now-legendary reference 222. The anniversary model improved upon the aesthetic and technical attributes associated with sports watches in the 70s, and it would later serve as the direct inspiration behind the timepiece on offer here – the Overseas Deep Stream Chronograph.
The assertive design codes of the Overseas are its defining characteristic. This time around, however, a touch of mystery breaks up the traditional formula. That’s also where the model gets its name – it mirrors the discreet beauty of a mountain stream, emulating the glisten of water flowing over stone.
The Deep Stream comes equipped with a steel 42.5 mm case topped by a blasted titanium bezel and adorned with similarly-finished titanium accents around the pushers. The latter are of the screw-in variation, and so is the crown, lending the piece a care-free 10 ATM of water resistance. Under the flat sapphire crystal, a soleil-brushed (a.k.a. sunburst) anthracite-colored dial harbors three distinctively asymmetrical subsidiary dials – two for the chronograph plus a small seconds display. The case employs a mixture of finely brushed and mirror-polished surfaces that, together with its iconic notched bezel, highlight the watch’s intricate architecture. Functions include Hours, Minutes, Running Seconds, Big Date, and Chronograph. Needless to say, the sword-hands and trapezoid indices are fitted with top-grade Super-LumiNova, ensuring optimal legibility in any and all conditions.
Hidden behind the sailing ship motif engraved onto the caseback, the VC caliber 1137 that powers them is ticking steadily away.
Our offering was just polished per OEM specs and is in superb aesthetic and functional condition. It comes in its original box but – somewhat regrettably – without any papers.
Covered by a limited warranty of 1 year, starting on the date of purchase.
