OMEGA takes its maritime legacy very seriously, and rightly so – ever since the Seamaster made its debut in 1948, the brand has been at the very forefront of deep-water timekeeping and sporty-yet-dapper aesthetics. The watch on offer here, therefore, is backed by a rich heritage in terms of both functionality and style.
The ref. 2264.50.00 Seamaster 300 Quartz takes a lot of design cues from its vintage predecessor but is nevertheless a thoroughly contemporary timepiece. It comes equipped with a familiar-looking 41 mm twisted lug case, whose sleek silhouette is underlined by a mixture of brushed and polished surfaces and beveled edges. The black dial incorporates the iconic Seamaster wave pattern and is adorned with aggressive luminescent indices and sword hands. Obviously, a quartz movement has some drawbacks that we’re all familiar with, but is also allows for a much thinner profile and a noticeably lighter wrist presence. That inarguably makes for a more understated wear, plus it is associated with lower servicing costs (and this one was just serviced.) The caliber in question is the OMEGA 1538 – a rhodium‑plated precision movement that boasts a battery life of around 42 months. Quite impressive, as quartz movements go.
