With all the noise around Omega’s sports watches, it’s easy to forget that divers and chronographs aren’t what made the brand famous. As a matter of fact, the universally-celebrated Seamaster started life as a decidedly dressier timepiece, and so did its more luxurious variation – the Seamaster De Ville. Due to the transformation of the Seamaster, however, Omega decided to assign the De Ville name to a more refined and elegant collection of timepieces, and thus the De Ville Prestige line came to embody all the qualities that the Seamaster no longer could.
The De Ville Prestige ref. 424.10.40.20.02.001 features a vertically-brushed rhodium/silvery dial with an exterior minute track, a ring track in a circularly brushed finish, and polished cabochons and Roman numeral markers. The slender sword-shaped hands are quite reminiscent of those on vintage Seamaster models, as is the stainless steel case with its simple lines and sleek silhouette. The date display is positioned at 3 o’clock and is the only interruption to the overall symmetry of the classic design. Inside, the in-house caliber 2500 is ticking steadily away.
