Seiko released the Seiko Sportsmatic 5, a.k.a. the Five, in 1963. Its novel, no-frills design, and its practical functions, which inspired its numeric designation – three hands, day-date, self-winding, water-resistance, and a sturdy steel case and bracelet – took the watch world by storm, marking the beginning of the long-standing legacy of the Seiko 5. Throughout the years, the Five has been constantly evolving, but it has always stayed true to the original formula, as has this latest limited-edition iteration of the model.
